The current riding of Regina-Lumsden-Lake Centre was created in 1996 by merging most of the previous riding of Regina-Lumsden with smaller portions of the previous ridings of Moose Jaw-Lake Centre, Regina-Qu’Appelle, and Mackenzie.

According to census data, Regina-Lumsden-Lake Centre is home to more than 66,000 constituents. Major employers include agriculture, government, and manufacturing.

Geographically, the riding covers over 14,000 square kilometers. It includes communities as far west at Tuxford, Eyebrow, and Marquis and as far east as Earl Grey and Semans. Its northern boundary goes past towns such as Davidson and Nokomis. While a geographically large riding, more than 60% of Mr. Lukiwski’s constituents live in northwest Regina, where the riding includes all residences north of the CP tracks and west of Lewvan Drive.

The riding borders the other Saskatchewan ridings of Blackstrap, Cypress Hills-Grasslands, Palliser, and Regina-Qu’Appelle.

While Regina-Lumsden-Lake Centre has not historically been a Conservative stronghold, the situation changed in 2000 when Canadian Alliance candidate Larry Spencer unseated NDP incumbent John Solomon by fewer than 200 votes. The race was close again in 2004, when Lukiwski beat Liberal Gary Anderson by 122 votes. But Lukiwski strong representation of the riding paid off in the 2006 elected when he won by more than 4700 votes.
